Donated intubation boxes to give local healthcare heroes an extra layer of protection

While the MCO lockdown was at its tightest phase and Malaysians were forced to work from home, REKA began to develop an extra line of defense for our frontline healthcare professionals to combat COVID-19 by partnering with MERCY Malaysia and providing several local hospitals with intubation boxes. The main objective of this collaboration is to decrease the risk of infection towards healthcare workers during the peak of this pandemic.
Inspired by an open-source design by Taiwan-based Dr. Hsien Yung Lai, these boxes were adapted for local hospitals who required the intubation boxes to shield them from viral droplets generated during the process. Most of the units made are currently being used during the MCO and the team is planning to manufacture more intubation boxes to donate to hospitals that are in need of the equipment.
“We received positive feedback for improvements that will be implemented in future developments. The pandemic urges us to come up with an immediate solution to play our role in helping Malaysian frontliners. Our collaboration with MERCY eases the process to deliver the intubation boxes to the hospitals that are in need. It is heartwarming to experience this rapid and outstanding collaboration during such challenging times” commented the CEO of REKA Inisiatif, Haziq Faris. He noted that the team will always be ready to lend their talents and ideas to assist healthcare workers in fighting against the Covid-19 pandemic in Malaysia.
For REKA, this is only the beginning for the team to consistently create solutions for our local health care providers to curb the widespread lack of adequate protective equipment during the ongoing pandemic. One of REKA’s current missions is to research and develop other technologies that could potentially contribute to the nation and eventually the community.
